"Amazing care, amazing staff!"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

I presented to the C33 ENT Dept this morning (13 March 2018) at 11am after visiting both my GP last week and the Washington Urgent Care Centre yesterday.

I come into the department after stupidly managing to wedge a silicone (Quies) ear plug into my right ear six days ago.

After no success at either my GP practice and walk in centre, I was referred to the department for an appointment this morning.

I was in incredible pain and couldn't hear from the right ear. I was greeted so politely first by a lovely health care assistant and then a brilliant, understanding young female doctor who made her first attempt of removing the object.

Despite working extremely hard and with the utmost care, she passed my case to a consultant to me. After he tried unsuccessfully, he decided to give me pain medication and a rest. This doctor had then finished his shift but then took the time and care to wish me well whilst I was in the waiting room and explained that another doctor would try their best for me.

After approximately 45 more minutes of trying, this lovely doctor explained that she was also unable to remove the object, gave me some cooling drops and another rest in the waiting room as the pain did start to become severe.

I was then seen by the sixth medical professional who was also absolutely fantastic and managed to remove the object after about another 30 minutes. Strangely, the first lady doctor had popped into the room to see how I was getting on and at that moment the object popped out! I think she was my guardian angel!

After almost four hours today and six days with this thing stuck, I managed to walk away to tell the tale!

I just want to express my sincere gratitude and thanks to everyone on that ward today, you were all absolute angels!

Thanks so much!

Charlotte
