"Such a positive experience"

About: Horton NHS Treatment Centre

My husband received a total right hip replacement on 2nd March, our trip to the Horton Treatment centre had been horrific due to heavy snow. We received such a warm welcome on our arrival and shown to our room. My husband has dementia and so there was a possibility that a lot more emotional and physical support could be needed the centre had made arrangements for me to stay. I cannot thank them enough for this. It showed me that regardless of the numbers of patients that go through the doors, they clearly consider the uniqueness of each person.

Staff were all amazing, regardless of the fact all hospitals across the country were having difficulty getting staff to and from sites due to the weather chaos, we received such great care, kindness and consideration.

Everything was explained to us and time given to ask questions and get clarification if needed.

It's so hard to write this review as there is so many specific things

I would love to add, and individuals that I would love to mention, who made this such a positive experience. We were discharged by the physio on the Monday, I was confident in what they had done and what my husband would need to continue to do when home. Despite physios discharge, the doctor wanted to monitor his sats a little while longer, this was so reassuring .

During our stay my husband experienced panic attacks early hours of a couple of mornings. The night staff were there for us, but I was thankful that they enabled me to approach the situation as I do at home, I am so grateful for this. The actual operation and everyone's help both pre and post op has been exceptional .

The type of dementia he has causes behavioural difficulties, and the need for rituals and routines. The centre and it's wonderful staff helped me to maintain this to create a calm environment for him to receive treatment and recover.

We have been home a week now and he's such a determined guy and mobilising well and doing his exercises. This morning when changing his stockings noticed oedema in the ankle and foot of operated leg, I called the ward and reassurance was given and also the comfort at the end of my conversation to be told to call anytime if I had any concerns. So a massive thank you from us both to every single member of staff for the care dignity and respect you gave to David and myself.
