"Hospital transport refused"

(as a service user),

I received a letter for an outpatient appointment in June at 3.30. I called the Scottish Ambulance Service in Kilmarnock to book transport - I called straight away so that I would know that it had been booked and all was in order. It took 30-35 minutes to get through only to be told they could not provide transport for an appointment at that time as they would not have time to do the return journey, 

This is outrageous.

Dear carinakb38,

I was very sorry to read about your experience and I am sorry that you are not happy with the response that you received when you asked for ambulance transport.

When we organise ambulance transport we look at the time for return journey as well as the one in to the hospital to make sure that there is ambulance availability to take patients home. I do not know the details of what you asked for (and we do not have any staff who take bookings in Kilmarnock) but it might help you to know that hospitals are always really helpful when people say that they are coming by ambulance and will change appointment times to an earlier time if necessary.
