"Absolute awful Experience"

About: Spire Liverpool Hospital

Attended with my Husband for a relatively minor procedure referred by our GP . Had to prepare from the evening before for this procedure bowel clearance so from 5 o'clock the night previous he neither ate or drank anything apart from sips of water . Our Appointment was 12.30 the following day so up at 6am on the day to continue the prep . On attending at the Hospital we were shown to a room and a healthcare assistant took blood pressure etc. 2 HOURS LATER !! I had to go and look for someone to find out what was going on ! We were eventually told it was going to be around 3.30 as the Consultant wasn't actually there. I was furious my husband has a heart condition and was very stressed . If they had told us from the start this was how it was we could have prepared for it . They said they just get all patients in at the same time then decide on the day what time the procedures happen !! Why get everyone in and then leave people sitting around (6 hours in our case, for a 10 min procedure )! My husband hadn't ate or drank for nearly 24 hours before he had the procedure . How is this health care. I asked for the complaints procedure and was told someone would come down and speak to us . i asked could it be after my husband had been taken down as I didn't want him stressed any further. About 15 mins later a nurse and I assume a ward manager or( someone higher up )came in asking about our complaint after I specifically asked to speak when my husband was out of the room .

I did talk to her about our concerns and all I can say is she was absolutely awful rude and condescending Just waffling on about hospital procedures and how they decide the running time of the ward I understand, there are situations were people cannot fast for too long which I appreciate . But her whole manner was rude bordering on aggression! I could see my husband was getting very stressed he was trying to explain how frustrating it was for him she was totally unconcerned by the fact she was making a very stressful situation even worse .I had to step in and call an end to the debate , no apology was given she just flounced out !! When my husband was taken down to theatre I was awaiting (as promised ) that someone from the complaints dept would come and speak to me. No one did ( clearly not interested) !! Again after his procedure I had to go and find someone to tell us what happens next.

I had the same procedure in an NHS hospital was in and out .

Seems to me the Spire are charging by the hour and passing the charges on to the NHS

Absolutely disgraceful !!!

Thank you for your feedback.

We are very sorry to learn that you were disappointed by the length of time you waited for your husbands procedure. We understand that patients prefer to be in hospital for as little time as possible and we are sorry that the reassurance offered by our acting ward manager was not helpful. Unfortunately as a small hospital it is necessary to bring patients in early to allow us to schedule individual patients needs requirements for sedation but we try to prepare patients by advising them that hey should expect to be here for several hour and we are keeping our process under regular review so that we can minimise patient waiting time as much as possible.

Kind regards,

Spire Liverpool Hospital
