"Hearing aids not working well"

About: GPs in North East Essex

(as the patient),

I had NHS hearing aids some years ago but I didn't get on with them too well, so I opted to go to Specsavers and got theirs. I was pleased with them and the whole package they were offering. However, after 4 years the warranty runs out. At that point I had to buy one or two replacement items such new domes.  Then I was told they no longer dealt with these hearing aids and that NHS hearing aids had come a long way since I last had them.

My doctor arranged for NHS hearing aids. I was contacted by a company called Scrivens. The audiologist came to the surgery. A hearing test was done and hearing aids were fitted.

I did not feel they made much difference and then one of them seemed to be dead. The volume adjustment no longer worked either. I phoned Scrivens and had to send this hearing aid to them somewhere up north. It came back, the volume adjuster worked and then it was dead again.

When it worked the sound was very loud, like a solid block of noise. I changed the volume, which as I have said then did not seem to work anymore.

Not being able to see an audiologist to ask, to check the hearing aid against my hearing needs is so frustrating. I cannot be in group situations, including family. I suffer from people withdrawal symptoms now. Does anyone have a good idea for me?
