I recently went to A&E due to being referred from my Dr for potential Sepsis, the Dr called the hospital in advance to expect my arrival and of his concerns.
Due to being in a rural location he advised it would be quick to drive than waiting for an ambulance which we agreed.
Upon walking to A&E we were shocked to see how many people were there for a Wednesday at 20:00 with no seats available and plenty of people standing.
We queues to be seen by desk 1 whilst desk 3 is doing nothing, surely it makes sense for people to use both and use the resource? - after all this is accident and EMERGENCY.
After checking in we were told of a 2 hour wait time (Bearing in mind I was there for suspected Sephis - the silent killer). I was extremely ill with fever, sickness, confusion and was only offered the comfort of a plastic chair straight from Northamptons old bus station.
My wife spoke to the nurse to let them know that I was feeling faint after waiting for an hour, again we were told they're extremely busy. After 3.5 hours of waiting and being surrounded by people who look like they had a drunken fall and being called up before me I was finally seen.
I cannot compliment the nursing staff and Drs enough after this point, they were great and I thank you for "fixing me".
Just disappointed that in 2018 someone with the suspected silent killer where time is crucial to start antibiotics had to wait 3.5 hours to be seen.
"Disgusting wait times with A&E"
