"Paediatric Day unit"

About: Gloucestershire Royal Hospital

My Son was emitted for day surgery to his ankle.

The staff on the paediatric day unit were very good. The play specialists explained the procedure of how we would get to the theatres, the sister in charge found a pillow without being asked, and everyone made us feel as comfortable as possible before the operation.

We were escorted to theatres where the anaesthetic team were great at explaining what was happening and how my son could expect to feel whilst being anaesthetised.

I was then asked to leave and was told to wait in the atrium where I could be easily reached when my son was brought back to recovery.

The surgeon spoke to myself and my son in recovery saying his operation had gone well.

The recovery nurses were very attentive making sure that my son had all the pain relief he required and ensuring his comfort.

On our return to the Peadiatric day unit we were soon visited by Physio to ensure my son could use the crutches before discharge ( this was very prompt on arrival back!).

The nurses ensured my son was comfortable, had pain relief and had managed to eat and drink before our happy discharge. My son was assisted down in the lift whilst I fetched the car.

The service was perfect - thank you so much to all involved.
