"lack of care"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Radiology

(as the patient),

Attended A & E following a CT scan on the advice of efficient, caring staff in the radiology due to severe abdominal pain.

On attending stated I had increased pain on eating and drinking and had two previous episodes of blood stained vomiting following endoscopy two weeks before.

I felt I was being treated like a drug addict looking for a fix.

Advised as it was 4 days since last blood test no point in repeating them.

Made to feel like I had wasted the doctors time.

I left very quickly apologising to the nurse for wasting their time

Outcome

Within a short time lying on the floor having vomited blood and very dizzy unable to get to a phone to get help. The last time I had pain as bad I had a hysterectomy.

If the doctor had asked they would have realised I had taken four tramadol out of the fifty the GP had prescribed two days earlier (GP had counselled on the addictive nature of the medication and advised attendance to hospital if the pain got worse)

How did the experience make me feel

Scared

Let down when advised to go to A & E by radiology staff.

Will not attend department again

I feel I received a poor level of care
