"My Daughter badly burned her leg."

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

I took my Daughter to Hairmyres A+E dept after she spilled Pot Noodle on her leg and got a nasty burn which had broken the skin on one place.

We were taken through to a cubicle and only had to wait a short time before being seen. As my Daughter had burned her thigh  she was given a sheet to cover herself while we waited. The Nurses who attended her were so caring, respectful and sympathetic. They explained every aspect of cleaning and checking the wound to my Daughter and engaged her in conversation to take her mind off the pain.

Her leg was dressed with a skin like gel cover and bandaged. We were given pain relief to take with us, and a follow up appointment for the following sunday to have the burn checked and fresh dressings. We were then given an appointment to be checked by a doctor for Tuesday. We have received fantastic care throughout from the NHS and the dedicated team at Hairmyres in East Kilbride!!

We have been treated with respect and politeness throughout. These dedicated people deserve our utmost praise and our NHS service also.

Dear MummyCarol,

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch. As a parent myself I appreciate how difficult and stressful this would have been for you both.

I'm pleased to hear that you received a warm welcome and the staff were friendly, warm and compassionate; this is the level of care that we aspire to provide to all, young and old, patients and their families.

It will be my pleasure to share your feedback with all the staff in the Emergency Department, we can learn from positive feedback of experiences such as your family's.

I hope your daughter is making progress and her review goes well.

Kind regards

Lise
