"Complete waste of time"

About: Royal United Hospital / Accident and emergency

I went to a&e with severe abdominal pain and waited 2.5 hours without ring triaged or spoken to. Eventually I was called and saw nurse practitioner who took my temperature and blood pressure but did not examine me in any other way. She asked if I'd passed a bowel movement and said that as I don't have an obstruction or fever to go home and see my GP another day. She was very insistent on giving me codeine despite my telling her I couldn't take it.

Not once did I get angry but I did get tearful and asked what if it was an ovarian cyst that was turning? Her response was 'well we get a lot of ovarian cysts in here, we can't treat them all'. She then proceeded to mock me saying 'if you have polycystic ovaries then you will need major surgery so you should hope it isn't that'.

I am a polite person. I had travelled an hour by car by myself and waited 2.5 hours patiently to be seen and didnt get any care at all.

As an aside, I took cash (note form) and a bank card but the card machines everywhere were only accepting cash so I walked around in tears for over half an hour trying to pay for my parking. A kind receptionist told me I could do it when I got home.
