"Robotic Prostatectomy Surgery"

About: Lister Hospital / Urology

Presently there is a great deal of newspaper coverage of prostate cancer and I am giving feedback on various forums to encourage patients concerned about their diagnosis and possible surgery.

I was diagnosed in May 2016, decided on surgery straight away and was referred to the Lister in June 2016. Met my consultant and immediately was impressed by his confidence and professionalism. Was admitted for my robotic prostatectomy on 14 July 2016. Operation was a total success, up and walking half a mile the following day, and left after 72 hours. The three week catheter experience was interesting as was the 28 daily self injections into my stomach. But I followed the advice from all the medical professionals -

had been performing the pelvic floor exercises from June 2016, and still do every morning, Never had an incontinence issue and as I told the consultant in November 2016," I am as dry as the Atacama desert."

All four post op PSA tests have been undetectable, and I am back to walking up to 200 miles a month.

When I read about the unfortunate experiences some men have had with prostate cancer, I regard myself as remarkably fortunate. And remarkably fortunate to have been treated by my consultant one of UK greatest surgeons and of course the rest of the Lister Hospitals Urology Team.

Thank you for all your help

Best Regards

Mike B
