"Mixed experience at Tameside"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

On the day of the operation everything went according to plan. There was no unnecessary waiting around and all the staff and nurses were kind, helpful and reassuring. The pre-assessment day had also been a good day with no delays and any questions answered.

The appointment when the operation was decided involved a change to see the registrar instead of the consultant. This was fine except for the delay of 2 hours from the original appointment time that I am sure could have been communicated to the patients – instead we were left wondering what was going on and how long we would be waiting.

I also believe my first appointment at the hospital could have been better if there had been better communication between hospital doctor and patient about what I should expect. I was expecting a scan but this wasn’t yet confirmed.

Response from Philip Dylak, Director of Nursing, Tameside Hospital Foundation Trust

Dear depend120,

Thank you for your kind comments about the staff who cared for you during your hospital experience and you felt you had been given the information and support you required whilst you were in hospital.

Unfortunately, sometimes changes in staff are necessary, due to unforeseen circumstances and I regret if this caused any delays in you being seen by the doctor within the Outpatient Department and the lack of communicating information relating to this delay. We will continue to make improvement in this area.

Thank you for your feedback.

Philip Dylak

Director of Nursing

Would you like to help the hospital to improve its services further? We are currently looking for patients and carers to become involved in a development called “Patient Stories”. We want to know more about our services from the point of view of those who received them – what was good, bad, what could be improved, what should be changed. Want to know more about what’s involved?

Please contact Philip Dylak, Director of Nursing at philip.dylak@tgh.nhs.uk
