"I must have thought it was ‘the end’ "

About: London Ambulance Service NHS Trust

(as the patient),

My wife and I had been invited for Mother’s Day to our son and daughter-in-law’s Sunday dinner. After sipping my wife’s glass of wine I remarked “quite pleasant” and subsequently had two half glasses. I don’t usually drink! I then felt cramp coming on in my left upper leg, above the knee at the rear. I begged leave to go out in the hall to walk it off. I must have felt the need to sit down – the only place being on the third stair up. That is all I remember until I heard my son tell his wife to phone for an ambulance. Apparently my head had dropped forward on my chest and I was making a ‘puffing sound’. I was aware of the arrival of the ambulance and the paramedics were extremely capable. My eyes were shut the whole time and I must have thought it was ‘the end’ as I said to my wife “get the cheapest funeral”!!
