"Hip replacement"

About: Hospital Of St Cross / Trauma and orthopaedics

My father was an inpatient on cedar ward for a total hip replacement on 23rd Feb. He was quite anxious before theatre but staff very much put him at ease. The theatre staff were very friendly, supportive and reassuring He was so grateful for the support of the ladies who took him down.

Post op he was very sick and kept apologising to the staff for being a nuisance, all staff reassured him it was no problem and were attentive and prompt.

He was given pain relief regularly and kept totally pain free, the physios were very good and on discharge explained to my mother and I which exercises he needed to do and when.

Our only gripe was that in the cafe area the hot drink machine was out of order and the vending machines were almost empty, not good that visitors can't get a hot drink in such cold weather! Big thank you to all on cedar ward everyone was caring and helpful.

Dear Jenny,

Thank you very much for posting your 5* review of your father's care on Cedar Ward at the Hospital of St Cross last month.

I do hope he's been doing well since.

I was very pleased to read how the staff had put your father at ease before and during his operation, and took care of him afterwards, especially when he became unwell.

I will share your comments with the manager and matrons at the hospital so that they can thank the staff on you and your father's behalf, and also look into your feedback about the hot drink and food vending machines not being in full working order when you visited.

The Trust is grateful for all feedback, positive or negative, as it means we can better understand what is important to our patients. Thank you again for leaving your comments on NHS Choices.
