"Great care and service with one exception"

About: Moorfields Eye Hospital (City Road Campus)

After receiving a referral for suspected cataracts the initial assessment appointment came fairly quickly.

The appointment was at the main site on City Road. That first assessment went extremely smoothly and hardly any waiting beyond what was needed to let eye drops work.

The consultant who explained the procedure was great, reassuring and very informed.

All the nursing and administrative were great.

The second appoint also at City Rd for a pre-op assessment was brilliant, friendly, reassuring and great as arriving early meant being seen early too!

Can't commend the staff enough.

Finally, the operation itself.

The letter stated the appointment was a 12 o'clock and that there would be some waiting.

It stated the patient should be nil by mouth for most of the morning.

Also it stated that the patient would be gowned so a bathrobe would be needed.

This was not true - neither nil by mouth nor hospital gown were necessary for the removal and replacement of the lens with a cataract.

After waiting over three hours finally a nurse informed me that I was the next (and final as it turned out) patient on the list to be operated on that day.

It would be been much easier to spend 3 hours sitting in a corridor if I had been aware the wait would be so long and I could have gone outside to stretch my legs or even find a decent cup of tea.

The operation has proved a great success and the staff were always helpful and friendly but I'm amazed I had to sit there as patient after patient was treated without anyone bothering to let me know my place in the operating schedule.
