My elderly mum was admitted to hospital this week with a leg fracture, she was taken to A&E via ambulance. The ambulance crew were brilliant, I drove to the hospital so arrived at A&E reception after mum.
Unfortunately the staff at reception were unwelcoming and gave brisk brief directions. I know they probably have a difficult job but a greeting and a smile would make the natural anxiety on arrival so much easier to cope with. Come on guys a smile doesn't hurt anyone.
The medical and nursing staff were great, explained well what was happening and provided welcome refreshments. Unfortunately once the decision was made to take mum to a ward we had to wait 40 minutes for a porter which meant mum breeched the 4 hour target. It was so unnecessary and the nurse tried her best to find a porter and eventually took us to the ward herself. We found a porter on the way, his hand held device popped up with my mum's name on route!
Not sure what happened but a breech for a porter when you are measured on such things is a shame.
Overall a good experience but a couple of issues that could easily be resolved.
"Good A&E experience but...."
