"Correct dressings not available"

About: Stoke on Trent PCT / District nursing

(as a carer),

It is my understanding that district nurses have been told that they can no longer carry a variety of dressings. They can only carry 2 "rescue dressings" which I think are inadequate for most patients.

Patients have to get a prescription from their doctor and then go to the chemist. If the dressings are not in stock they will have to be ordered, then the patient has to go back to pick up the dressings before a dressing adequate for their needs can be applied.

District nurses visit housebound patients. How can these people be expected to get the dressings they need? If they live on their own and rely on the chemist collection and delivery system it can be a week before they can obtain the dressings. I think this is an idiotic idea!
