On Sunday 18 Feb I attended the out-of hours GP clinic, having previously dialled the 111 telephone service because I had a painful leg injury.
The GP sent me for an X-ray which revealed I had a fractured fibula.
My lower leg was immobilised in a boot and I was told I would receive a letter, within 7 days, with an appointment to attend the Fracture Clinic. I was given a printed sheet explaining 'the referral triage process'.
My treatment to this point was faultless - courteous, friendly and professional.
I am writing this 8 days later, having telephoned the outpatients appointments department today to chase up my appointment because I have received no letter or telephone call or text or email from the Fracture Clinic. I was adhering to the advice on the patient information sheet asking me not to call the Fracture clinic within 7 days of visiting A&E.
The Outpatients appointments department told me an appointment had been made for 22 Feb, but of course I didn't attend because I hadn't been informed.
So I haven't been treated, and a valuable appointment has been wasted due to a clerical error by the RSCH.
I am not particularly annoyed, but I am surprised, and I feel you should know about this in order to prevent similar mistakes in the future.
Yours sincerely
Roger Howes.
