I was initially seen in the trauma unit in November 2017 following a sports injury. A MRI scan was recommended. The MRI scan appointment was at the end of December. In mid January 2018 I saw the Orthopaedic Consultant who discussed the findings of the scan which showed a medial meniscus tear...the pros and cons of surgery were discussed. A knee arthroscopy was suggested but I was told the waiting list for this type of surgery would be a year. However, a few days later I was contacted by the admissions office to say the operation could be arranged in February...although the first date was cancelled as the list was full another date was given.
I arrived at the admissions suite at 0730am on 21/2/18 which reminded me of an airline check in! The staff on duty were friendly and efficient despite it being very busy. I was checked in by a nurse who did not have a cheerful demeanour, and a kindly word or a smile would not have gone amiss to alay my anxiety. However, the Registrar, Anaesthetist, Porter, Volunteers, Theatre staff and Recovery staff were all quite wonderful in their attention to detail and professionalism.
After a short time in the recovery room following the operation I dressed and walked to the chair area where I was offered a hot drink and something to eat. I was discharged home at approximately 1430pm with a discharge letter of do’s and dont’s.
I am recovering well and have nothing but high praise for the care I received.
I have felt compelled to write positive feedback given the bad press the NHS so often receives.
