"Goos and bad"

About: North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust

Rapid assessment unit on admission, excellent. Well trained caring staff. Emergency assessment unit unfit for purpose. My 89 year old father admitted with suspected pneumonia and a water infection. While waiting to see a doctor he kept wetting himself i explained he had water infection and not normally incontinent. I requested a bottle they said they hadn't been brought upstairs also a commode which did not appear during the 7 hours we waited for a doctor. He was left laying on a wet bed despite three requests for help. There was a shift change while we waited and the new staff could not do enough for us they were fantastic. At 9pm we were told to go home as they were told my dad had seen the doctor and apologised he hadn't there had been a mix up and couldn't be seen til next morning. I visited next morning and my dad was asleep whole day and had deteriorated. More annoying was a prisoner in the bed next to dad had been seen by doctor my dad was ignored. Then was moved to elderly care where he is now. Hie was taken for an MRI scan but could not have it due to incomplete paperwork by doctor. So an unnecessary journey for an already very sick man. I arrived this afternoon to find cold soup and melting ice cream on his table. The healthcare assistant walked in and said she didn't know he couldn't feed himself. This is not good enough. He could eat and was not incontinent before admission . She put it on his board to feed but he has been there 2 days i suspect he has had nothing to eat . I am shocked at the different standards and there is certainly an unawareness of patient care where there is a case of vascular dementia. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone. Sad thing is there are also some fantastic hard working caring staff , but plenty on the other end of the scale.
