My 3 year old son recently fell extremely ill very quickly and we were sent to QMC where he stayed for a week, including an emergency operation.
We stayed on ward D34 and he was treated by a never ending team of people from ENT, Paeds and more. As you can imagine, this was the worst week of our lives and every single staff member we encountered made it somewhat easier. All completely fabulous and prepared to go well above and beyond.
From the cleaner who learned his name and cheerily chatted each morning, the catering assistant who changed his order to fit with surgery and a fussy palate, to the pharmacy nurse who shared her personal experiences to reassure me (and located his favourite biscuits), to a random passing staff member who comforted me in the corridor when I was in floods of tears, even the ambulance guys outside who gave him a tour when we went out for fresh air - nothing was too much trouble for everyone we met.
My son has even been inspired. He was going to be a firefighter but now considers medical professionals to be just as awesome! This just goes to show how a little boy who was poked and prodded and stabbed with many needles at a scary and painful time, was made to feel special and less scared.
My only complaint is that the restaurant closes at 2.30pm so if you're staying, get used to sandwiches and jacket potatoes as they are the only food options after that.
"Exceptional care for my 3 year old"
