"Appointment with consultant."

About: Royal Bolton Hospital / Ophthalmology

Attended for my previously booked appointment and I was dealt with quickly and promptly even though I arrived early. The eye tests, scan and consultation took place quickly with no waiting time.

The consultant discussed my medical condition in detail with me and then a junior doctor for training purposes which was fine. The consultant has recommended a change of treatment and has also referred me to Manchester Eye Hospital for further treatment that Bolton is not able to do because they lack the equipment. I have no objection to this as I am able to get to Manchester easily.

My 2 star review above relating to 'dignity and respect' relates to the new booking-in system at the entrance to the building. The screens are large and bright and a lot of personal information is displayed on the screen for patients to click on to agree that information held is correct. However, I was aware that there were people standing behind me also waiting to use the machines and all personal information, from name, address, date of birth, religious affiliations, etc., come up on the screen clearly for anyone to read standing behind or nearby. In my opinion, this constitutes an infringement of patients' data protection and also their privacy.

The screens are situated in the Eye Unit of a major hospital which means that it is likely that many patients will have great difficulty reading the screens anyway due to their eye conditons and may make them anxious and flustered especially if they have a queue behind them. I think they are intimidating as well as an infringement of private information.
