"Dignity care was nil"

About: Rotherham Hospital

(as the patient),

I was in coronary care at first and I cannot fault them. They were all marvellous, but when I went onto A2 it was entirely different.

I felt it was like going from a private to national health patient. In my case, mainly my dignity care was nil.

They came to give me an injection in my stomach and failed to draw the curtains round when it was visiting time. This to me was unacceptable. I felt if you couldn’t look after yourself it was god help you!

I had been in four days and had to ask them to change my bed!

Instead of spending all that money on the frontage of the hospital in my opinion they should have spent it on the wards. I wasn’t impressed at all. Hope I do not have to go in again.

Dear seeded841

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We are sorry to hear of the issues you experienced and that you felt you were not treated with dignity. In order to be able to learn more fully from your experience, it would be useful if you would call Patient Services on 01709 424461. Without any more specific information, I can still comment on a few of the general concerns you raise.

The issue about not drawing a curtain is unacceptable and we will share your posting with the ward manager on A2 to address this.

In terms of changing the bed linen, we do not routinely change bed linen on a daily basis anymore and I am not sure many people do this at home. We should, however, be alert to any dirty/soiled or stale linen so I’m sorry if we weren’t and you had to ask for a change of bed linen.

If you would like to discuss things further though, please contact Patient Services on 01709 424461 with more details.

With best wishes

Rebecca
