"Appalling and a disgrace to the profession"

About: Phoenix Medical Group

The treatment from the staff at this surgery is appalling. My mother was 10 minutes late to an appointment this week, not ideal I know, but this was down to the reason she needed an appointment in the first place and she tried to call the surgery numerous times to let them know she would be late but no one picked up.

My mother is currently suffering from something similar to vertigo (we're not exactly sure what as the GP wouldn't see her) and actually fell over 3 times on her way to the surgery which caused the delay but upon arrival was told by the receptionist that the GP wasn't going to see her because she was late. My mother was actually crying and had cut her knee from falling and explained all of this to the receptionist who agreed that she would ask the GP but that it was unlikely. She then returned and said that no, the GP wouldn't see her because she was late and she needed to pick her children up from school later that afternoon (it was only 1pm!). Not only is this totally irrelevant but it is unacceptable to treat anyone this way and considering the waiting time at this surgery is horrendous my mother wouldn't have been seen at her appointment time anyway!

My mothers condition is rapidly getting worse and she is now going to have to go to A&E which should not be necessary and is a direct response of the GP at this surgeries' general attitude and incompetence. If my mum had still been at the surgery when she called me I would have asked her to get the GP's GMC number so that we could report her for not upholding the standards and duty of care of her profession.

We are very sorry but unfortunately we are unable to see patients who are more than 5 minutes late for an appointment as this is not fair to the other patients who have booked appointments.

Sometimes the clinicians run late.

It may be that they have had to admit a patient to hospital, a patient has had a complicated issue, an urgent problem has had to be dealt with - or many other reasons.

Your mother was booked to see our Nurse Practitioner who also had some home visits booked in for patients who were too ill to come to the practice.

Your mother would be welcome to contact the surgery to discuss this with a practice manager.
