i found myself facing a week-end emergency with a retracted stoma,a frightening situation. after contacting out of hours doctor, i soon had a call from the surgical assessment unit at the gwh swindon. after establishing it wasnt practical for me to get to a&e a doctor arrived to examine and advise me & arranged a mon am appointment.
on further examination, arrangements were made for me to be admitted & a refashioning of the stoma was performed. this was possible because ampney ward pulled out all the stops to make room for me & provided excellent post-op care.
my fears were that my appliances were too small for my new stoma. however stoma care department arrived to provide suitable appliances & took care of ordering further supplies. they further provided further appointments to monitor my progress. after 5 days i arrived home happy & relieved.
a wonderful team effort for which i can only humbly say a sincere thank you.
