"Waiting 10 hours to find my operation cancelled"

Arrived at Derby Royal Hospital at 7am to have prostrate surgery. Last food and drink taken the evening before.

Sat in the waiting room for 10 hours until 5pm, then was informed that the surgeon would not be able to operate. By this time I was not in a fit state mentally or physically to have an operation.

Having heard other patient’s stories throughout the day, my experience is apparently not uncommon. There has got to be a far better system than having people hanging around for hours as if they were in a third world country, chancing when or if their operations may be performed.
