I wanted to specially mention the midwives who supported me through my pregnancy. From finding out I was pregnant And it being my second time I was all set for planning a home birth. My booking midwife Fay R. was very efficient and helpful. My community midwife Gill K. was also supportive and flexible in her approach to my care organising my appointments around my work shifts. At 28weeks I was deviated to find I failed my GTT and was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes. Kate M. was very supportive and positive about the whole thing and signposted me to the gestational diabetes uk website. I Found the Diabetologist who’s now semi retired to be very positive and reassuring. The community Matron Diane C. was also a shining star and would give me positive matras whenever I saw her. Even complementing my bump rather than saying how big it was which worries a lot of diabetic women.
Thankfully though the advice of the website I managed to stay diet controlled and on Tuesday following an almond flour chia seed pancake to celebrate pancake day. I contacted the birth centre and spoke to Penny M. over the phone just as I was beginning to push. She called the midwives and an ambulance. She was friendly and lovely over the phone. I had a beautiful daughter caught by my husband as it was too quick for the midwives to get to me. They then arrived for the placenta but after an hour it didn’t arrive physiologically so through careful discussion and deliberation we switched to active to deliver. I was so thrilled that everything went to plan. The midwives cleaned everything up and were wonderful. I would highly recommend a home birth with the care of Oldham and rochdale midwives as they were all fantastic what an amazing team. Xx
