"Very long wait for follow up appointment"

About: Lister Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

I had a hip replacement in December 2016 and i was treated extremely well during my stay.

When discharged the paperwork said i will receive a check up appointment within 6 weeks.

It finally arrived for 13 weeks time (March 2017).

This is when things started to change.

At my follow up apt i was told i was recovering well but as i had poor mobility i was offered further physio, which really helped.

I am also waiting for a knee replacement but of course i needed to fully recover first.

The Clinic seemed to be in chaos - long delays, the reception staff went home at 5pm leaving patients confused as to what to do with their paperwork, the consultation was very rushed and unsatisfactory.

The consultant said he would see me again in 4 months time (that would be July 2017).

No apt arrived so i called the Appointment dept to be told i'm on the list but there were no apts for July but they would contact me when an apt was available.

No apt came so i rang again October and just got a recorded message saying unless it is an emergency please call again!

What on earth is going on?

It has now been 12 months waiting for my apt, not 4 months as promised.

I cannot walk far because of the knee pain and i feel very let down.

I shall be contacting PALS on Monday.

We're very sorry that your experience of follow-up care has not been good Sonia - you say that you will be contacting our PAS team colleagues on Monday, which we urge you to do as this needs sorting and they are best placed to help you - in case you need it, their email is pals.enh-tr@nhs.net. We've also shared your posting with them, as well as the orthopaedics team.
