"Counselling is amazing"

About: Inclusion Thurrock (Talking Therapies)

(as a service user),

On feeling at a very low point in my life, due to an abusive husband I seeked out some counselling. I got in touch with Inclusion and had a telephone assessment in March, but it took 5 months before I was seen which I think is way too long when you are in a bad place.

My counselling with Ian was fantastic, I found him to be very professional and I totally encompassed every session.

Counselling is amazing as it allows you to be totally honest about your feelings with someone who has no connection to your life, as family and friends are sometimes too close and have opinions.

I looked forward to my sessions as it was my time to release my feelings and thoughts without judgement. I feel in a much better place now and would totally advise anyone unsure whether to have counselling to do it with no hesitation. To improve the service, the waiting time us too long and should be shorter.

Hi There stonenr66

Thank you so much for sharing that. I'm really pleased that you found the counseling helpful and feel you are in a much better place now. Great.

You mention that the waiting list is too long and that you waited for 5 months to start treatment. You are absolutely right it does feel like a long time and its longer than we would have anticipated. I shall look into the circumstances of this.

In fact the average waiting time for people seeking treatment varies between the different types of therapy but can be as little as 32 days for step 2 (low intensity ) and 55 days for step 3 (high intensity ). Sometimes waiting times are longer due to clients having limited availability or waiting for a more specialist intervention but we would certainly expect counseling clients to be seen, currently, within 12 weeks.

Getting clients into appropriate treatment as swiftly as possible is our main aim and something we devote much attention on. I shall investigate the details of your waiting time and see if there's anything we can improve on. Anything we learn from the process will help us bring about changes and improvements.

Thank you so much for your feedback and on behalf of all the team at Inclusion Thurrock, all the very best.

Paul
