"A totally inadequate service"

About: St. Mary's Island Surgery

We have a St Mary's Island facebook page and recently have had 4 separate postings complaining about our surgery, which has opened the floodgates from many others. The service has fallen apart, people are unable to book appointments, get prescriptions and register with the doctor. The admin staff have walked out and been replaced with new/temporary staff, exacerbating the problem.

On personal experience, the on-line booking service is not fit for purpose. When I used it, it didn't allow me to choose an appointment, which was what I expected from an online booking system. Instead, 3 weeks later, I received a call from the surgery saying that they understood that I had requested an appointment, which I then made – had to wait another 2 weeks.

My husband has had numerous problems. Given a fasting blood test at 10.30am. When he said he needed earlier as dangerous to fast that long as he is diabetic, he was told to go to the hospital for an earlier one then. When he told them that he would get there no earlier travelling by public transport they told hiim to drive there. This is dangerous/illegal for him to do on low blood sugar.

As part of his diabetic check, he booked a telephone consultation with a doctor (waited 3 weeks for appt), sat in all day and he never rang, neither was it followed with a call from him or surgery with an explanation/apology. Then his prescription request showed he hadn't completed his diabetic review. When he queried this with reception, he was told he hadn't had his telephone consultation with the dioc. He told them that the doc didn't keep the appt and they said that the doc had called on a later date and left a message on our answerphone. This was not the case.

He failed to diagnose his persistant cough. I found on the internet that it was caused by one of his meds, which when confronted, the doc changed.

The surgery boasts in offering a flu jab to vulnerable people. We are never told when they are available, we have to call in/phone to ask.
