What I liked
The new hospital.
What could be improved
I attended for an appointment in the Opthalmic Clinic at on March 31st 2011. The place was deserted. Eventually I found a nurse and she did a field test for me. I was then told I could go home. I had expected to see a doctor. I had originally seen the doctor at The Manor for the first time in October 2010 following a referral from my optician. I had laser treatment at the Eye Infirmary at Wolverhampton in December 2010. I saw the doctor again at The Manor at the beginning of January 2011 after chasing up the follow up appointment three times. The doctor said he wanted to see me again in three to four months time, he never mentioned coming beforehand for a field test. I have never had a field test for any of the other appointments and I have to question whether one is necessary. Why is the field test done separately? Why can't it be done when visiting the Eye Clinic to see the doctor? This is a wicked waste of money, especially as the hospital has to save money. I also think it is a waste of time, is my time less important than the doctors and nurses at the hospital? I have been satisfied with the treatment so far, but the follow up has been chaotic. It is time that your systems were completely overhauled and brought into the 21st century. You may have a new hospital but your systems are way out of date. I found there is a lack of communication. Why wasn't I told in my appointment letter that the appointment was only for a field test? If I had been kept informed perhaps I would not feel so annoyed. The least I expect is to be told what is going on, after all we are in 2011 aren't we?
Anything else?
Improve communications between hospital and patient. Cut out waste of time and money by streamlining systems.
