As someone who over the years has rarely had to see a GP it is even more frustrating when the need arises to find that the Several GP’s I have seen have been both lacking in empathy and in my opionion knowledge!
For the past year I have been experiencing menopausal symptoms - most of which I would never have believed were caused by this, I was put through a number of unpleasant tests to “rule out” certain conditions, for which I appreciate was necessary.
Ultimately it was confirmed as peri menopause (I had already accepted through my own extensive research) ..after several months I decided that trying HRT May help - when I rang the surgery the earliest appointment with a female GP was 4 weeks away, the very helpful receptionist suggested trying each week for a cancellation- I got one the following week with a female GP.
It was the most lacking in support and empathy appointment I can remember experiencing.....at a time when you are feeling vulnerable I can truly say it was awful! Maybe training a member of staff to work with women experiencing menopause would be useful?!
