"Operation cancelled for the second time this year"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / General surgery

I was due to be having surgery tomorrow for an operation that had already been cancelled for January, I get a phone call today,15 hours before I am due in to say that it is cancelled for a second time.

I work full time, twice now I have managed my work calendar to take into account being off work after surgery, my husband had also booked tomorrow off work to be there to drop me off and pick me up.

I am in a considerable amount of pain, which is impacting on I know the NHS is being squeezed to deliver more with less money, but this is impacting on patients safety, quality of life for patients.

I am a 50 year old British Citizen, been working since I was 16, paying my taxes and national insurance, and is this what our generation has to look forward to, an NHS that is unable to deliver care to its patients.

I am disappointed and angry that OUR NHS is being run into the ground by people who are playing a game with people lives and do not understand the reality of the situation.

I am sorry that your operation has been cancelled on two occasions. We do not underestimate the impact of any cancellation on our patients and their families and the distress and inconvenience this causes.

Regrettably, NUH (like hospitals across the county) had to cancel many operations and appointments in January and into February as a result of the significant pressures on our emergency services and to ensure the safety of our patients. We are working through a plan to rearrange patients’ operations and outpatient appointments at the earliest opportunity.

If you would like to discuss further, you can contact me on: 0115 924 9924 x62122 or email: jo.fort@nuh.nhs.uk.

Kind regards,

Jo Fort, Divisional General Manager
