I was recently admitted via A&E to the County Hospital for 4 days following a severe knee injury that required surgery and will require physiotherapy.
I experienced good care, very good at times over that period. (Amy, nurse practitioner on A&E was particularly good). I am also a health professional employed by this Trust.
Due to inadequate capacity in the hospital, I was kept in A&E for 8 hours, before being transferred to Endoscopy Recovery and later Day Case Unit as there was no space on the orthopaedic wards. My proposed surgery was delayed for 2 days due to lack of theatre space.
Despite this, staff remained calm, patient and respectful. They communicated a clear plan and updated me without prompting. I was kept comfortable and staff were compassionate and respected my dignity at all times.
The only negative was the dependence on agency staff at night, many of whom were not familiar with patients, protocols or processes.
I was not offered a Friends and Family Test card during the 4 days and the Wye Valley Trust website feedback box is too small to capture detailed feedback.
"Excellent care in difficult conditions"
