"They settled him down and made sure we were ok"

About: North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Patient transport service (PTS)

(as a carer),

My husband required hospital transport for an outpatient appointment. They arrived in good time and were very helpful and caring while at the same time showing my husband and me respect. He uses a zimmer frame and wheelchair for distances of more than a few yards.

No problems with outward journey but on return my husband felt he was able to walk into house despite being tired and having to navigate steps. Unfortunately trying to get over step at front door his leg gave way and he sank to the floor. The 2 man crew were wonderful and made him comfortable and gave time to rest, they were on the point of calling out another crew to assist but with skill and a great deal of effort on everyone's part managed to get my husband into a wheelchair and then into the house. They settled him down, and made sure we were both OK before leaving.
