"Surgery cancelled at last minute"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Renal (Ward 1) University Hospital Monklands / Urology (Ward 6)

(as a relative),

My wife was asked to attend an appointment at Monklands Hospital and asked to report to the Same Day Admissions Lounge in the morning for surgery on her kidney she was told she would be going to Ward 6 after her operation and may need to stay overnight, the anaesthetists attended my wife in preparation for surgery. I then left at 12-30pm expecting to visit my wife later on. She later phoned me at 3-30pm to tell me nothing had happened yet, she then called me again at 4-00pm to tell me the doctor had now informed her it was too late for them to perform the operation that they would make another appointment for my wife, so I then have to rush from east kilbride to pick my wife up.

I find this situation totally unacceptable my wife had been fasting since midnight right through to 4-00pm with no end result. This is the second time my wife has attended this hospital for surgery on her kidneys, it was a few years ago and the surgeon started the operation and then decided he could not complete the operation, she was then referred to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary to have the operation completed, so after this latest debacle we do not have a lot of confidence in Monklands Hospital

Dear Wearylou

I am sorry to read about your wife's recent experience whilst attending for a Urology procedure.

In order to look into this further for your wife, could you ask her to get in touch with me on lynn.mctavish2@Lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk or 01236 748748 x4135.

Kind Regards

Lynn
