I had to go to A&E with my daughter on Friday night (9th Febas she fell over on her face onto hard concrete and was dizzy, distressed and bleeding. Her mouth was full of blood. I didn’t know if she had sustained a head injury or broken any bones or damaged her mouth or lips. The first aider at her school thought she might need stitches.
We arrived and it was quite busy. I thought we would be waiting for hours. We were seen in Triage before too long, though, and the staff were friendly, funny and chatty and put us at our ease. It wasn’t too much of a wait before we were seen by a doctor who was very calm, professional and thorough. He was incredibly respectful and asked before touching any part of my daughter’s tender, swollen and bleeding face. She had entered the room quite nervous and worried, but the doctor kept her calm. He explained everything really well and helped my daughter clean up her own wounds so that she knew what to do and could do it without panicking.
A nurse came in to explain scientifically what had happened to make my daughter’s face swell and bruise. She explained it so that my daughter could understand and it was educational and caring. She said lovely things about my daughter and encouraged us.
We were ready to go home only a few hours after we had arrived.
It was a very good experience. Thank you to all involved.
