"Waiting times and approach"

About: Birmingham Children's Hospital

Waited over 3 months just to get a 30 minutes consultation with a approved nurse. Of which there are over 20. Only to be told an ultra sound will be arranged which will take a further six weeks. Gp couldn't arrange ultra sound cos it's a child. An adult will be referred by gp for ultra sound within two weeks. There are real issues with childrens hospital method. Ultra sound could have been done before consultation to which could have informed treatment if necessary. Next consultation 3 months on. That'sover six months from gp referral. It feels like job creation more than anything. The child seems to be the last thing on their mind. Couldn't even offer an appointment straight after scan in order to determine if child needs the further tests suggested. It's crazy

Firstly I would like to apologise that we have not replied to your comment sooner. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback. I will share your feedback with our radiology manager to highlight your experience. The current process has been set up so that a paediatric clinician, whether nurse or doctor, can make an assessment and ensure that the most appropriate investigations are then requested. Investigations are requested by staff who have additional knowledge about children and the focus will always be what's best for the child. We will look into the process to obtain the scan results, and see if there is anything we can do to improve this. Best Wishes, Rachel Evitts - Patient Experience Sister.
