"COMPLAINT ON THE WAY, POOR AFTERCARE &"

About: Queen's Hospital / Maternity care

My wife just had our third child in queens only to return several days later with a severe infection! currently writing my letter to complain but some highlights

1) Given a Ballon to be induced being trialled at queens, the Ballon did not work nor was it explained the Ballon was on trial

2)Told to return the following day 10am to be induced by alternative method , waited from 10 am-5pm for a bed on Anti natal, finally my wife was induced 7pm!

3) Due to the labour wards 30+ rooms being full the only pain relife for several hours was gas and air which makes her violently sick! so if the beds are full why induce her!!

4) Approx 1.5 hours after the birth heavy bleeding and clots started causing her to lose approx. 2.6 ltr's blood

5)One day after the birth iron levels had been very low , however in error iron tablets had not been prescribed until 48 hrs later despite the nurse/midwife dispencing meds 24 hours previous telling my wife she needed Iron tablets and would return!

6) Sent home without pain relief prescription despite bad pain !

6) After being home three days became very ill to the point she looked DEAD! ghost white and shaking violently we returned to hospital and re-admitted with suspected infection/sepsis , was given 18 bags of antibiotics over 48 hours with several bags of fluids , a doctor then advised with the iron levels shortly after birth my wife should have been given an Iron infustion via IV, tablets would never have been sufficient even if they had been prescribed.

7) Whist putting in a cannula despite my wife explaining she has had several operations and previous children, due to poor vein's the Cannula always needs to go in her right hand, the midewife knowing better persisted with the left hand, my wife told her the cannula was not insurted into a vein but the midwife insisted it was, moments later a doctor arrive and my wifes left hand/arm swollen approx. 2/3 bag of fluid had not entered the vein causing the swelling, the doctor had to remove my wifes wristband to help circulation. the midwifes response was the fluid will be absorbed anyhow with no much of an apology

8)we discharged my wife after three days, the doctor wanted her to stay for another day to take observations , my wife to point out non had been take for almost 11 hours anyway

9) We had asked exactly what was wrong and how the infection was caused, several doctors/medical staff told us possible Uterus infection, possible water infection, one said the level of IV used she suspected sepsis, then the last doctor told us it could have been a viral infection/cold etc? which seems nonsense given she was given 18 IV antibiotics!!!

10) We asked for blood results, the midwife who visited us at home chased only to be advised sorry but the vaginal swabs and bloods taken whilst in hospital had been mislabelled and LOST!!!!!

some of the staff are pure lazy, some don't seem to care what level of care they give, this really lets down the few that do want to help.
