About: Broadgreen Hospital / Urology

I was diagnosed last September 2017 with localised prostate cancer and referred to Broadgreen Hospital to discuss the options open to me. I was very impressed with the level of detail that the Consultant provided ensuring that all the positives and negatives of the various options were fully discussed.

After careful consideration I decided to opt for a robotic assisted radical prostatectomy. Once again, all positives and negatives were reiterated and fully explained with the pre-op following the consultation.

On the day of the procedure I was admitted to Ward 2 were I was introduced to various members of the medical and support team who briefed me on the schedule for the day.

Prior to the operation the Anaesthetist and the Consultant visited me to explain once again what was going to happen and any concerns that I might have had. What really struck me was the level of communication which I thought was excellent.

The procedure went ahead as planned and was transferred to Ward 2 for my recovery and assessments. Once again, I can only praise the medical and support staff who really looked after me at every stage during the recovery process.

I was seen the next morning by the Consultant who provided me with an update on how the operation had gone and was subsequently told that I could go home later that day.

I had a follow up appt 10 days later to have the catheter removed which again ran like clockwork and was on my way home after approximately 60mins.

I’m struggling to put into words how grateful I am to everybody concerned at Broadgreen Hospital and would like to thank you all for getting my life back on track. The level of care and professionalism shown by all staff was exemplary and a credit to the NHS.
