Went to a and e for dizziness and seeing black spots floating, which I know is connected to high blood pressure, which for me always has symptoms. Last week attended a different A and E and was misdiagnosed with vertigo. This time, it didnt start off too well in streaming as when I mentioned blood pressure and the vertigo misdiagnosis the nurse dismissed me a bit, saying GP manages high blood pressure...no...GP is closed at night and my dizziness is severe, I'm not one of those who turns up for a cold and don't appreciate being made to feel like that. Also told her it's not vertigo which she didn't seem to believe.
Saw a wonderful doctor next who took me very seriously, and listened when I said it's my blood pressure. I had an ecg, bloods, urine, a nuerological assessment, and even an eye test because of the black spots.I was then given meds to help with the dizziness, and put on a drip.Blood pressure readings taken standing up and lying down 6 times, by a lovely student nurse. Doctor gave me reassurance that my blood pressure wasnt dangerously high, while validating how scary the dizziness could be. Also dismissed the vertigo thing which was validating, I know my own body.
I trusted this doctor due to his caring manner, which isn't always the case. Really went the extra mile.
Some of the nurses were stressed, had someone shouting at them, but were nice to me all the way through my treatment, and showed concern just before I left, advising me to go back if I developed a headache. This was an extra caring touch rather than leaving me feeling like an inconvenience which has happened to me at other local hospitals.
"Most staff very caring and professional, went..."
