"Not one of the staff knew nothing of kidney..."

About: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

My daughter has polycystic kidneys, suffering from extreme pain, left plank across her stomach and a high rated urine infection creates phylfrinitus which needs to treat very quickly. Rushed by ambulance to Cramlington a & e Friday evening, given oxygen with mask to help relieve pain was the given, about 11.30pm a pain relief capsule inserted up her bum and we were then told this should 'work' 20 mins. 12 o'clock came and severe pain continued. Then a female nurse came to insert cannular and inserted needle on the bottom of her thumb! Extreme pain! Another nurse then came to put in morphine and anti sickness. By 1.30am she was going sleepy. Next morning a doctor discharged her. No contact from cramlington to renal at Freeman who would have given staff full details on her health problem and his she should have been kept in until the high level of infection had decreased considerably! She was admitted into freeman as soon as the doctor saw her in renal clinic and kept in for 4 days. Why did cramlington 'kick' her out!!!

Dear SLG,

Firstly I am pleased that your daughter received the care she needed. I am however deeply disappointed to read your review, the care you describe from us is not at all what we would want any of our patients to experience. I would urge you to get in touch with us so we can look into your daughters experience in more depth to see what we can learn from it.

With your daughters permission please email us at patient.experience@nhct.nhs.uk with your daughters full name, date of birth and home address. With these details I can also ask an appropriate member of staff to give you a call to discuss what happened.

Please do get in touch with us and I hope you daughter is feeling much better.
