"Rude sonographer both time for my ultrasounds"

About: Gloucestershire Royal Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I went to Gloucester hospital for my 20 week scan to check baby was ok and check for any abnormalities. This is my first pregnancy and obviously myself and my partner were so excited to see our baby and make sure everything was ok, however the sonographer was extremely rude from the outset, mumbling so quietly we couldn't hear anything they were saying as they were scanning. They didn't explain any parts of the scan and I understand that they have to do their job and view certain parts of the baby to check that everything is ok but what I think they needed to remember that even though they views babies on ultrasounds every day, we don't, and it would be nice to have perhaps a more personal experience and have different parts of the baby labelled to us. They didn't even confirm at the end whether everything was ok with the scan and just left me lying on the bed. I had to ask whether everything was ok which I don't think is good enough and I left feeling really upset.

I then went a few months later for a ultrasound on my leg (still pregnant) for a suspected DVT. This time it was a different sonographer, they asked me what the problem was and I explained pain in my leg. They then started to apply ultrasound gel to my thigh and my boyfriend said casually "Oh the pain was more in your calf wasn't it?", he did not mean it in a condescending  way and was not telling them how to do their job and we were shocked when they replied saying You do your job and I'll do mine, we could not believe how rude this comment was! I also had to take my jeans off and they did not give me anything to cover myself with which i also thought wasn't very good. Again leaving feeling upset.
