Patient care, timing of medication, the drs 2 failed attempts to put in a canula, someone who actually listens when you tell them a patient is visually impaired so he doesnt end up with a hot meal in his lap
my husband has diabetes, heart failure, and small cell lung cancer,he is visually impaired and suffers severe confusion, epilepsy, and has brain tumours,he went into hospital in january, where he got lost in admin,i found him in ward 3 after a long search,he had messed the bed as nobody had given him a bell, the tv was so loud the nurses couldnt hear him calling for the toilet, nobody knew if he'd had his meds,or if hed had any food or drink, and when his notes finally turned up after a 20 minute search, the sister couldnt read the handwriting,i got him home the next day for continuing care,he was admitted again on 26th march with cellulitis in his arm,he was put in aedu, the dr tried and failed twice to put a canula in his hand and arm,i noticed from his notes that he hadnt had his meds so i took the notes to a nurse who said he had been given his meds but she hadnt signed the book!! (so if another nurse had seen it she could have double dosed him) he was then taken to ward 5 at midnight,i went to visit him at 3pm,he had hospital pyjamas on and when i asked why i was told he had been left to feed himself and the hot meal had fallen into his lap,his table was behind him with a cold cup of coffee on it,the bell was on the floor,i couldnt find his notes,i asked the nurse why there wasnt a sign up above his bed saying that he had impaired vision and asked if hed had his meds, she arranged for a nurse to put a sign up,and proceeded at 4pm to give him the drugs he should have had at 8am!! when i left at 4.30 he was still waiting for the anti biotic drip to be put up,he was very confused and disorientated the bars were not raised on his bed,he doesnt know what hes doing most of the time as the brain tumours are making him very confused, and even though i told everyone his condition,i may just as well have said nothing as no-one took a blind bit of notice
