"Visit to ear nose neck department"

About: Calderdale Royal Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

I was extremely frightened on my first visit to this department on the 1st of February. I did not have to wait long before I saw my consultant, he and his wonderful nurse immediately put me at ease. I was not able to tolerate a mirror to look at my vocal cords, so a camera was used, I was so preoccupied laughing and the consultant's humour I was in before I knew it. He explained my condition; and put me at ease, before sending me for an ultra sound, again I only had a few minutes to wait, The radiographer was really nice, she went for a second opinion, and it was decided that a biopsy had to be done ( due to family history) I was really scared, but had two biopsies within minutes, almost pain free. The Doctor explained it was precautionary and not to worry, I was sent back down to see my my consultant, and again he explained why the biopsy was done, and he would see me in clinic when they had the results. He gave me some literature to read, as a I had spent two weeks googling ( not a good idea) and come up with many different diagnoses, he wanted me to read what I actually needed to read, I can honestly say the whole experience was brilliant thanks to all concerned, from Receptionist ,Nurses, Radiographer, Doctor and Consultant. Many complain about the NHS, but when you need them they are there. Thank you Halifax Hospital
