"I felt treated as an individual"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Accident & Emergency Royal Alexandra Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics (wards 21-23)

(as the patient),

I had been put up in an airport hotel as my flight had been cancelled due to the snow, was pushed over and broke my wrist  and was devastated that I was not able to travel to see my daughter in Australia.

I received wonderful care from everyone who looked after me at the RAH Paisley.

The ambulance arrived within 20mins and the crew were so professional and caring.

I went straight to A and E and was seen quickly. X Ray was very efficient and then returned to A and E. Everyone who dealt with me were so kind and empathetic to my situation. They made sure I was given pain relief. Another trip to X Ray was quick.

Doctor and nurses I saw explained my injury and I needed to be admitted.

I went to ward 21 and both the night and day shift looked after me so well.

I did feel I was treated as an individual and that the staff wanted me to be as comfortable as possible.

Mr Bell came and clearly explained my options and I decided to have operation.

Every member of staff  I came across was so nice, they made me feel very reassured that I was in good hands.I am usually an assertive person but when you are in hospital you can feel very vulnerable and everything can seem out of your control! Obviously it’s important for staff to have great medical skills and knowledge but it makes such a difference to be treated well.

On return to the ward I was still in a lot of pain and had to get the pain specialist nurse.

My only concerns were for the staff, they worked so hard and had to juggle so many tasks each patient required.

I returned yesterday to the fracture clinic and got the same great service, from the nurses who took off my original plaster, X Ray, and the Doctor I saw. He explained what had been done, listened to my questions regarding traveling to Australia and then went to check with Mr Bell if I could have the new plaster off and a splint in it’s place.

Mr Bell agreed and I was so happy as it will be so much better for me in the heat. Again I felt treated as an individual.

I know I have written a lot but people complain so much I just wanted to say thanks to all who dealt with me.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your comments on line. I will ensure the staff from the RAH who supported you are aware of your praise.

It is always extremely rewarding for the staff to know that their care and attention is appreciated.

I am delighted that you are recovering well and I hope that it won't be too long before you are heading to see your daughter in Australia.

Best wishes
