"Gastroscopy & Colonoscopy"

About: Queen Marys Hospital (Sidcup)

I had the pleasure of visiting the Newlands unit for a double Gastroscopy & Colonoscopy. I have to say i was not looking forward to this. But the staff are amazing and make you feel very relaxed and at ease.

Having read many stories from patients at other hospitals i was anxious about the procedure to say the least.

I was seen at 3:10pm and i was in the car being taken home at 4:35pm. The whole thing was super quick and as easy as it can be. First came the Endoscopy, i was sedated for both procedures but i remember 80% of things. There was no pain and no discomfort in this procedure and i put that down to the dedicated and caring team there. The whole process took about 6/7 minutes.

Then the bed was turned round for the colonoscopy, this took about 20 minutes, again no real pain apart from the camera going round one corner. I would say if you can watch the screen do this as it made me feel at ease actually seeing what they are doing. Again pretty easy procedure down to the doctor and his team.

We went to recovery where i had biscuits and a coffee (first thing i had eaten in over 30 hours), it was amazing.

Thanks again to the doctor and his team, and all the staff there, You made a day i was not looking forward to as pleasant as it can be.
