My wife was referred to St Mary's Hospital in November 2017 for treatment for haemorrhoids and a colonoscopy by the consultants team discovered some bowel polyps, one of which contained a tumour. The consultant explained fully the resection procedure he recommended for treatment and, although we were initially very alarmed at the news, my wife came away from the consultation with full confidence in the consultant and his team to carry out the procedure. She returned to St Mary's on 4 January 2018 and the resection was carried out. She was an in-patient for 4 nights and was visited frequently by the consultant who assured us that the operation had been without any complications. At a subsequent consultation a fortnight later we were give the good news that there was no sign of the cancer having spread and a 6 month follow-up was booked.
We cannot speak to highly of the excellent treatment my wife received throughout, particularly from the consultant and the team that he leads. Also many thanks to the nursing and care staff on the ward especially at a time when the facilities of the hospital were extremely stretched by the 'flu epidemic and non-urgent operations were being postponed and cancelled. Our experience throughout is an example of the NHS at its best. Many thanks.
"Excellent surgical and support care"
