I had to go to A&E as an emergency 2 weeks after my c section - I had sudden & excessive bleeding, which turned out to be due to retained placenta. The streaming nurse when we first got there was fab, as was the Gynae doctor who assessed me. This was all done in the first 1.5 hours, at which point we were told bloods would be taken and that I was going to be readmitted to post natal ward; my husband was sent home to collect our baby as I was breastfeeding. Fast forward over FIVE hours when I was finally taken up. Nobody had communicated between A&E and the ward (or with us), we’d been put in a side room and forgotten about (we asked four times what was happening, given we now had our newborn with us and I was still bleeding) and no bloods were taken till we got into the ward - handovers in A&E meant that each time we asked, the person said they’d just come on shift and didn’t know but would find out, then we heard nothing. We went in at 6pm and only made it up to post natal at around 11:30pm, only to be told that the bed had apparently been available since just after 8pm so they didn’t know why there was a delay. Poor experience across the board. I have reviewed maternity separately.
"A&E visit - total lack of communication"
