Having been referred to my GP from my optician, I was then referred to the L&D Eye Care Centre for a cataract operation on my left eye. I am a 63 year old fit male and this was my first procedure. I had only to wait a few weeks for the referral and was on the third shift of the day, and ended up being the final operation of the day.
The staff and team could have been tired and frustrated, but my experience was highly positive and the team were friendly, polite and professional.
From arrival to departure it took about 4 hours (take a book, magazine or e-reader) but I was offered a hot drink and a sandwich.
The actual cataract procedure took under 15 minutes and was quite painless, although it is odd laying there fully awake while it happens.
I was given a clear hard-plastic eye patch and two sets of eye drops, and luckily my eyesight improved the very next day, and over two weeks later everything seems fine.
If you are in any doubt about having a cataract procedure, I would encourage you to go ahead. The team at L&D certainly know their stuff.
